Frequently Asked Questions

Everything Temple families and adult beginners ask us before their first class. If you don't see your question, just text us at (208) 360-6275.

Getting Started

Is this beginner friendly?+

Yes. Most of our students walked in with zero experience. Your first class is a guided introduction, not a tryout, and every fundamentals class is built with new students in mind.

What should I bring to my first class?+

Comfortable athletic clothes and water. That's it. We'll handle the rest and let you know exactly what you need if you decide to continue.

Do I need to be in shape first?+

No. Jiu-Jitsu gets you in shape. Come as you are — we scale intensity to the person, not the class.

How long does the free intro take?+

About 45 minutes, including a walk-through, one-on-one basics, and a short Q&A afterward. No pressure, no hard sell.

Kids & Families

Is Jiu-Jitsu safe for kids?+

Yes, when it's taught correctly. Safety is the first rule on our mat. Kids classes are structured, supervised, and age-appropriate, and we teach control before intensity.

What's the youngest age you accept?+

Age 3, in our Minis program. Classes are 30 minutes with age-appropriate class times.

My child is shy. Will they fit in?+

Yes. Coach Elias meets every new student where they are. Most shy kids open up within the first two or three classes because the environment is calm and predictable.

Can parents watch class?+

Absolutely. We encourage it — especially for the first few classes.

Membership & Pricing

How much does it cost?+

$75 bi-weekly per student, the same rate for kids and adults. Your first class is free.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?+

There are no long-term contracts. Membership is just month-to-month.

Do you offer family discounts?+

Yes. Ask us about the family rate at your intro class — we work with parents to keep it affordable.

Are there hidden fees?+

No. Tuition is tuition. The only extras are your gi and belt when you're ready, and we'll point you to affordable options.

About the Academy

What lineage do you teach under?+

We're a Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu affiliate. Coach Elias trains and tests under the Machado system — one of the most respected lineages in the sport.

Do you compete?+

Competition is optional. Some of our students compete regionally; most train purely for skill, health, and self-defense. Both paths are welcome.

Where are you located?+

Temple, Texas. Full address and directions are on the contact section of the homepage.
