A Parent's Guide to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Kids

Every week we get the same three questions from Temple parents: Is it safe? Is it too aggressive? Will it teach my child to fight?

Short answers: Yes it's safe. No it's not aggressive. And no — it teaches them how NOT to fight.

Jiu-Jitsu is often called 'the gentle art' because it's built around leverage and control, not striking. Kids never punch or kick each other. What they do learn is how to stay calm under pressure, how to control someone bigger than them without hurting them, and — most importantly — how to walk away.

The most common feedback we get from parents isn't 'my kid learned a cool move.' It's 'my kid is calmer at home.' Confidence has a way of quieting the noise.

Our kids classes are structured. Every class has a warm-up, a technique, a game, and a cool-down. Coach Elias runs a tight ship — respect is the first rule, effort is the second, technique is third. Kids who act out get a reset, not a lecture.

Ages 3-5 (Minis) train 30 minutes. Ages 6-9 train 45 minutes. Ages 10-14 train an hour. Class times are age-appropriate because attention spans are age-appropriate.

You're welcome to watch every class — in fact, we encourage it for the first few. You'll see exactly how your child is being taught, what the coaches say, and how the other kids treat each other. Nothing hidden.

If you're on the fence, come watch a class before you sign up for the intro. No pressure. We'd rather you feel certain than sold.
